Parent Connection
The parents of SABIS® students are members of the Parent Connection (PC). Monthly meetings are held at the school and are attended by parents and school administration.  The Parent Connection keeps families informed of activities through a bi-monthly newsletter and annually plans a family fun day for all SABIS® families. The Parent Connection is yet another positive link that ensures the school’s success.

The Gold Slip Program
Students may have received a gold slip from a member of the SABIS® staff for going above and beyond what is typically expected. Each month, one student from every grade in Kindergarten through Grade 5 was either selected to attend a Gold Slip Luncheon in their honor, or they received a certifi cate for a Friendly’s ice cream cone.

After School Enrichment Program
SABIS® International Charter School offers an eightweek after school program that focuses on improving standardized test scores for students who had documented evidence of performing poorly on past tests. The programs offer small group instruction and are taught by lower and upper school teachers in the content areas of reading, English Language Arts, mathematics, and science. Students that attend on a regular basis receive this additional academic support through small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring as they work toward their goals of improving their academic skills and test taking abilities. Upper school students are also hired as one-on-one tutors and teachers’ assistants. These students gain valuable work experience, and serve as role models to their peers.

Extended Day Program
The Extended Day Program at SABIS® is designed to support the parents and guardians of students whose jobs and working hours require before and/or after school care. The program continued to provide parents with a safe, comfortable, supervised environment for their child. The program operated on an independent, self-supporting basis. Fees collected are used to cover staff salaries, snacks for students, and project costs. Over 150 students and their families utilized the program at some time during the year. Approximately 10 SABIS® staff members and three to five upper school students worked in this program.

The Student Teacher Advocate Relationship (S.T.A.R.)
The Student Teacher Advocate Relationship again paired off an individual staff member with a student on a one-to-one basis. The goal of the program is to increase students’ self-esteem. S.T.A.R. mentors offer advice, support, and assistance with homework. Many mentors included their “star” in outside activities, including picnics and movies. Some of our students have had the same S.T.A.R. for several years and have developed especially close relationships.

Athletic Program
The SABIS® International Charter School athletic program serves student-athletes on 24 different varsity and sub-varsity teams, including soccer, cross-country, basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, tennis, baseball, volleyball, softball and track. The school is a member of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference (PVIAC). As such all student-athletes subscribe to the expectations, rules and regulations of each group, as well as those unique to our school.

In addition to interscholastic play for students in grades 7 –12, the athletic department offers instructional and intramural competitions for lower school students in wrestling and basketball. A summer sports camp is offered to lower school students with instruction and competition in baseball, softball, wrestling, basketball and soccer.

The past school years, SABIS® teams earned MIAA post-season tournament invitations in boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball, girls’ tennis, and baseball. The boys’ basketball team and the girls’ cross-country team won their respective league championships.

Many of our student-athletes were recognized for their individual accomplishments as three student-athletes were voted to All-State honors. A number of student-athletes were selected to various All-Western Mass teams, and were awarded All-League recognition.

Student-athletes are required to complete an academic monitoring form a minimum of twice each academic term. This program is designed to keep the communication open between the athlete’s coach and his/her teachers. Students must maintain their academic eligibility to continue to compete in interscholastic athletics. Students earning a varsity letter and making academic honors receive an award, each term, to commemorate the accomplishment.
