SABIS® International Charter School is an urban, public college preparatory school for students in kindergarten through grade twelve. The school is managed by SABIS® Educational Systems, Inc. – a private, for-profit management company that develops and operates high standard primary and secondary college preparatory schools. Established in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1995, the school is part of the worldwide SABIS® system founded in 1886. SABIS® International Charter School provides a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes math, English and world language at all grade levels. Abstract reasoning and critical thinking are considered crucial to the SABIS® educational system.
The Student Body of 1574 students includes approximately 460students in the high school (grades 9 – 12). SABIS® International Charter School entered its seventeenth year of academic instruction this fall. The school opened in 1995 serving students in kindergarten through the seventh grade. We added a grade each year to build our high school, and last year - 2011 - we graduated our eleventh senior class. We are very proud to report that for our seventh year, 100% of our seniors were accepted to college. Diversity is an asset to our student body with over 60% of our students being students of color.
The High School Curriculum provides a competitive level of scholastic preparation for college. All students take four years of Spanish with the goal of being bilingual and bicultural. Math is required through the twelfth grade and is considered a third language. Science and history are required for three years each. Graduation requires twenty-seven credits to be earned between the ninth grade and graduation. Requirements are as follows:
English - required all four years
Math - required all four years, minimal level attained by graduation - Math 3. Math levels include Math 2 (Algebra II and Geometry I), Math 3 (Algebra III and Geometry II), Pre-Calculus, Statistics and Calculus.
Science – required for three years with a minimum of one life science
World Language – required all four years
History – required for three years; one year of American History included
Fine Arts – At least one course of Music, Art, Creative Writing, Artist Way
Physical Education – required for four years

Honors Classes are offered to students in the ninth and tenth grade in all academic diciplines and to students in grades eleven and twelve in English.
Transcripts and Credits are updated annually from the ninth through the twelfth grades. Course credit is listed on the transcript and is earned with a grade of 60 or above. Twenty-seven credits are needed for graduation. SABIS® values English, math and world language more heavily than science or history and therefore they are given more credit (1.3 credits) than a science, history or other full-year elective (1.0 credits) on the transcript. Other elective course may receive from 0.2 credits to a full credit based upon number of meetings, length of course and work requirements. Advanced Placement course work is granted at least 0.3 credits extra per year. Grade point averages are figured on a 4.0 scale and are not weighted. The highest grade point average assigned is 4.3.

In so doing, student prefects learn to make decisions based on values and rationale, rather than peer pressure. The organization is divided in areas of School Management, Academics, Social and Extra-Curricular Activities, Outreach, Athletics and Discipline.
Interscholastic Athletics are offered at both the varsity and sub-varsity levels in soccer, cross-country, football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, ice hockey, baseball, softball, tennis, track and field and cheerleading.
