MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of the counseling program at SABIS is to provide all students regardless of race, ethnic or cultural background, sexual orientation or special needs with support, skills and knowledge necessary to be able to be leaders throughout the world. We believe the counseling program should be a balance between prevention and intervention as to assist students in developing the needed skills beyond high school.

COUNSELING
Services may be offered in a classroom setting. Counselors teach a combination of prevention/intervention based classroom lessons through the year. Students receive up to 10 classes per week. Some of these classes may consist of Empathy, Impulse Control and Anger Management.
Individual Counseling is a helping relationship where the counselor assists the student to understand his feelings and behavior develop relationships with classmates and improve decision making skills.
Small Group Counseling involves a counselor working with two or more students together. Group member can share ideas, give and receive feedback, increase their awareness, gain new knowledge, practice skill and think about their goals and behavior.
Individual Counseling is a helping relationship in which counselor and students explore ideas, feelings and behavior.

Confidentiality
Counselors respect the privacy of information, always considering actions in terms of rights integrity and the welfare of students. It is a counselor’s duty to inform an individual the conditions and limitations under which assistance may be provided. These conditions include; harm to self, harm to others or harm by others.

COORDINATION AND CONSULTATION

Counselors at SABIS also consult with parents, teachers, administration and community resources and coordinate activities to promote a positive school climate and learning environment for each student.

Students may meet with their counselors’ by;
• Making a written or verbal contact
• Stopping by the office to make an appointment
• Referral from school personnel and /or parents

Parents may contact their child’s counselor by;
• Telephone or written communication
• Stopping into the Main Office to make an appointment
